Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn to weave a small, charming basket using string and colorful yarn. Guided by weaver Alison Irwin, you’ll master the simple yet versatile hand-manipulated twining stitch. Each participant will receive a comprehensive kit, including pre-cut warp strings, a selection of vibrant yarn, and an informative handout to aid your creative journey.
One of the highlights of this workshop is the opportunity to personalize the basket’s rim. With multiple finishing techniques available, you’ll be able to draw inspiration from Alison’s collection, ensuring that each basket is uniquely yours. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a curious beginner, this workshop promises a fun and rewarding experience for all.
This workshop runs parallel to the Spinners and Weavers Guild’s annual show and sale in our Gallery.
Be sure to come early and enjoy inspiring works on display, including more of Alison’s weavings.
Materials are included in the course fee.
Weaving has been an important part of Alison Irwin’s life for many years — her first loom was a Christmas gift when she was about 8.
Now, decades later, there are more looms, lots of samples and too many ideas in her Maple Bay studio! Several of Alison’s projects have been published in both “Handwoven” and “Little Looms” magazines, and she usually creates an entry for the Council’s annual Fine Arts Show, just to ensure textiles in some form are represented.
