Discover Encaustic Painting

March 23 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

encaustic painting

Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves a heated wax medium to which coloured pigments have been added. The results last a lifetime.

We begin by introducing and experimenting with proven encaustic techniques. Then, you’ll apply these methods and create your own masterpiece. For best results, we recommend working on multiple canvasses because each layer requires time to cool before adding the next layer. Keep in mind that it may take up to 10 layers to construct your image, each contributing something unique to the final product.

We hold small group classes and all skill levels are welcome. Therefore we welcome participants who are new to encaustic and those with some experience.

All materials are included in the registration fee.

Refund Policy: Withdrawal from classes, camps and workshops is permitted up to five business days prior to the start of the class. All refunds are subject to an administration fee of 20% of the class fee or $10 (whichever is greater). Participants cancelling fewer than five business days before the start of class will not receive a refund (exemptions made for medical reasons accompanied by a doctor’s note.) CVAC is not responsible for classes missed by the student. Missed classes cannot be transferred, made-up, or carried to other activities.

Instructor: Loretta Puckrin

Loretta Puckrin has been creating since pre-school, with, “… whatever I could get my hands on!” Initially trained in radio and television, Loretta went on to own a print shop with 45 staff. The shop provided many creative opportunities in graphic arts and in working with teams. Loretta holds a Certificate of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta.

She works in wood, fibre, metal, paints of all types, pen, pencil, words and any combination thereof. Loretta loves learning new things and is currently exploring using multiple colours of clay to create something that can be clear glazed and still very colourful.
