6 weekly classes for young artists age 13-18, Wednesdays after school

Instructor: Mitchell Villa

Explore a wide range of subject matter while honing your skills in acrylic and oil painting, including color mixing, brush techniques, texture and composition. Returning students build on their previous course work. Have fun expressing your imagination with a small group of like-minded peers in an inspiring, relaxed setting. 

Small group setting of max. 10 students with professional artist instructor.

Some materials provided, a list of supplies will be sent upon registration.

Course content of Acrylic and Oil painting:

• Discover painting from a ground-up approach
• Composition development
• Transferring images/ideas to canvas (grid system, free hand, projector)
• Basic colour mixing and theory
• Explore mark-making 
• The order of operations to create strong paintings
• Studio safety and methods to reduce environmental impact
• Make use of smartphones and technology for creative development

About the instructor

Mitchell Villa is a professional artist who recently moved to the Cowichan Valley from Victoria.

He has been teaching acrylic and oil painting at Cedar Hill Recreation Arts Centre and the Art Gallery of Victoria.
