Saving Art: Tales from an Art Conservator
See paintings from the perspective of an art conservator. As an applied science, conservation has much in common with medicine: examination, imaging, analysis and documentation are critical to determining effective treatments. Common condition issues are critical to determining effective treatment. Common condition issues such as soiling, yellowed varnishes, tears and other structural issues will be illustrated, along with treatment approaches.
Cyndie Lack (BFA, MAC) is a paintings conservator in private practice with over 30 years of experience in the treatment of easel paintings and murals. Through her internship at the Courtauld Institute of Art, she developed a special interest in the British 19th century artists’ materials and techniques. She enjoys outreach opportunities that educate the public in responsible stewardship of cultural property.
