Artist Statement:
“robin: random set” is as an exhibition of works created over the last 60 years of art making. It is not a retrospective, and it is not representative of all the subjects, styles, or techniques that I have explored during that time.
This set of works is testament to many of the influences that have inspired me. Factors such as location, employment, and travel introduced me to new subjects and themes. Manipulating materials and exploring traditional and new techniques is part of my nature.
As an art educator, I was continually required to engage in many aspects of art making. Introducing art processes to students was a two-way experience as I was inspired by their work which opened new potential and opportunities for artistic expression.
When digital technologies entered the art world in the 1980’s, it was necessary to learn and understand how to incorporate computer processes into my art and my teaching. This led to a major new direction in my own imagery.
Although I continue to create art, this exhibition is a set of previous works, selected with an emphasis on the diversity of my experiences.
