Since 2019 my work has been focused on a photography-based project: harnessing crazed light (“caustic optics” in physics) to create works that have the richness, appearance and complexity of abstract paintings.
Using a small camera and a single warped-glass object, I pull unexpected compositions and colours from banal settings. This unusual lens train and unconventional technique enable me to see less in order to see more. The Swimmers is a sole edition archival pigment print on fine art paper, matted and framed. There were no bathers, no water, and no swimming when I captured this image. Just me in my studio disrupting reality.
