The Last Roses
60 x 80 cm
This painting is part of a series inspired by my daughter’s wedding flowers. I wanted to convey their beauty as well as the joy of the day. The painting evokes the feelings I remember. It is not meant to be a botanical depiction. The arrangement is floating in space rather than being grounded in a vase, giving it an airy, uplifting aspect. I used acrylic paint, acrylic marker and India ink. The variety of marks and lines resulted in a lively surface. Throughout the painting I built up many layers of thin paint. This brings a depth of colour and vibrancy sometimes difficult to achieve with acrylic paint.
