“Scherzo” in musical terminology is a playful composition. As a jazz musician, I have found that I can express my emotions, life experiences, spirituality and consciousness by spontaneous creation through music and sound. For me, painting is the same creative expression visually. The interplay of colours and form are melodic and rhythmic, and dance on the canvas. I work mostly on a flat horizontal surface using acrylic paint. I approach my work from all four sides, letting the paint layers react to each other to commingle and blend or cover. My work is inspired by music created by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman and all the innovators who were able to touch people by creating a new voice in jazz, and artists like Gerhard Richter, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko, who were able to allow the viewer to interpret their emotions and ideas about life through their abstract works.
