I love the challenge of weaving one-of-a-kind projects and this dark blue basket fits that bill perfectly! Twining it was the easy part. With no clear vision of what the final piece was going to be, I sketched and discarded a few thumbnails before deciding to add more beads. One by one, the peyote-stitched motifs took shape. Now attached around the basket’s base and rim, these stylized leaves remind me of the more complex border designs on paisley shawls. The basket sits on a woven paper mat; its coppery hue echoing similar colours in the beads. The mat’s narrow strips are in sharp contrast to the basket’s fringed top.
