This work was inspired by a cut block along the Pacific Marine Circle route. This area was logged and was the site of a forest fire in 2017. The striking contrast of the pale, golden ochre in the leaves and rushes, the madder red of the osier dogwood and charcoal black of the burnt stumps made for a striking late fall landscape. A lone Douglas fir, overseeing the new growth, is framed in a small pond.
