Making a Coast Salish Drum

October 16, 2021 @ 9:00 am 11:30 am

Make a deer hide drum in this small group session in the studio. Led by Hwiemtun (Fred Roland) a popular local teacher, the group will receive all the precut materials and hear about the traditions behind the drumming. Hwiemtun’s connection to the spirit world, passion for story-telling and love of sharing diverse traditions of indigenous knowledge, has made it possible for him to bridge many worlds. Through sharing the gifts of oral history, music and ceremony, Hwiemtun has become an intercultural teacher and guide. Hwiemtun has devoted his life to creating partnerships internationally, nationally and locally with organizations, youth programs, treatment centres, spiritual groups and tribes. This event is part of the Wild Wings Festival. CVAC has planned other arts activities for the festival during the month of October.
