Lorraine Thorarinson Betts, Visual Artists,  www.lorrainebetts.com

Lorraine Thorarinson Betts is an abstract artist working in mixed media, painting and monotype from her studio in Metchosin, BC. A graduate of fine arts from the University of Victoria, Lorraine’s artwork is in private collections in Canada, Japan, England, and the USA.  “The journey of art is the telling of a story, a journal of a day, an era, a moment. As life is built day upon day, art is built layer on layer, in reflection. The complexity of technique layers into each work the ideas that read back to the journey, through the strata of colour, shape, and texture.  My work involves oil on paper in the form of monotypes and mixed media as well as acrylic on canvas and panel.   Making art just seems like a natural state of being.  I love the saga, the reflection, and the rendering of what fascinates.”

Francis Sullivan, Photographer,  www.francissullivanphoto.com

Currently living in Victoria, Francis is a self-employed photo-imaging specialist, offering custom printing services to photographers as well as hi-res digital art reproduction for artists. He also gives instruction and tutorials in a variety of printing and colour management topics, both individually or in small groups.  In his personal photography, he is engaged in a diverse range of interests, and is particularly drawn to the modern landscape, exploring our use of signage, icons, writings, constructs, cast-offs and transportation with an eye to understanding contemporary culture. Francis is curious and amused by how we inform and transform our urban and rural spaces, leaving imprints and hints of our values in the objects we construct and ultimately discard or abandon. His minds eye seeks graphically pleasing images instilled with a double take of, if successful, irony and amusement…and possibly a shred of residual underlying meaning.  An active member of the local arts scene, he is a member of both the Victoria Community Arts Council and the Gage Gallery Arts Collective where he is preparing to mount a solo exhibition of his work for April 12, 2016.  Over the years Francis has exhibited his work in a number of solo and group exhibitions in Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Vermont and Washington states.
